Collage & Concept
in short
The Nimbus design was one of the first designs for my studies. In this course we had to focus on the form and explore different methods to shape a product. The starting point was a set of basic shapes from which we had to choose one. Part of the project was also about exploring the relationship between the form of the product and the user experience. To be able to set a certain mood, I created a paper collage made from all kinds of different images that stood out. In this project it was also my first time to explore a design in 3D. Several years later I realized that this was the first project that sparked my interest and enthusiasm for the experience of shape, form, colors and materials in products.
inspiration
Abstract shapes
In order to develop a product we had to choose from a set of abstract shapes that served as the initial inspiration. After choosing a shape I decided to explore the shape further through re-sketching the original shape. After making several sheets of new shapes I chose one shape to develop further.
ideation
Creating a collage
Aside from learning different methods for exploring and creating form, we also had to think about the experience of shape, form, colors and materials in products. Therefore I made a paper collage from all kinds of different images that stood out. In choosing the images from different magazines I used mainly three themes as a guideline: nature, organic and clean.

Final design
The project was focussed on exploring shapes without having a direction towards a specific product. In this final phase I figured out the actual product that I wanted to make. After imagining different products I chose to create a lamp based on the shape. I made the final design in 3D because one of my goals was to create an appealing render for the presentation.
